Mvsei Vaticani

Went to see the Vatican today. Had to get up at about 6:30 in order to make it to the tour group meeting point in time. We stood around waiting for about 45 minutes and were in one of the longest lineups that I've ever seen. There were literally thousands of people waiting to get in (the Vatican gets about 12,000 visitors per day). Eventually the line started moving, and we had a tour of the Vatican Museums (including the Raphael Rooms), the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and St. Peter's Square. The amount of extravagant artwork in there is crazy. The altar wall of the Sistine chapel is about the size of 2 average apartment buildings.
Anyways, after the tour, we went for lunch at a food stand, and I drank a beer out in public at St. Peter's Square (drinking alcohol in public is legal here). There's little food shops all over the place that sell ice cream, juice, pop, hot dogs, Paninis, and beer. Tons of people just buy beer and then walk around and do the tours.
We walked around for awhile trying to figure out how to get to the Vatican gardens, but eventually found out that you need to book a group tour to do so. I've come to the conclusion that you can't even get into the Vatican unless you are in a group, you can't get in by yourself.
I've developed either a cold or some nasty allergies to something around here, and I keep sneezing and blowing my nose. We were on a completely packed metro car from Ottaviano to Stazione Termini (I couldn't even move my feet it was so packed) and I had to fight back a sneeze for about 10 minutes. Hopefully it goes away soon.
I don't think we've fixed our jetlag situation yet, we are getting tired at about 1 or 2pm, and the last couple afternoons have pretty much involved us coming back to our hotel room at about 4pm and sleeping till 11. We're gonna force ourselves to stay awake this afternoon (it’s about 7pm right now).
Anyways, here's some pics from today. The ones inside St. Peter's Basilica didn't turn out so great, but whatevz.
